In a decisive step toward fostering transparency and security, the Executive Chairman of Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, Hon. Chiemela Iheanacho Wagbara, visited the Asa Nnentu Spare Parts Market with his team as part of an ongoing campaign to promote rights-based practices among spare parts dealers.
The visit marked a bold move to reform the market, long perceived as a hotspot for criminal activities, including the illegal scrapping of vehicles and trafficking in stolen goods. Hon. Wagbara emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to repositioning the Asa Nnentu Spare Parts Market as a hub of legitimate business and excellence.
“We cannot allow the image of this market to be tarnished any further,” Hon. Wagbara stated. “In the past, Asa Nnentu has been wrongly viewed as a haven for criminal activities. This administration is determined to change that narrative by implementing strict regulatory measures and working in collaboration with relevant security agencies.”
To achieve this goal, the Ugwunagbo council has established a dedicated committee, which will work alongside state security agencies, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Homeland Security Service. This task force is charged with eradicating illegal activities, ensuring that stolen vehicles are neither brought into nor scrapped in the market.
The mayor’s actions align with the Abia State Government’s broader efforts to curb criminality statewide. Similar initiatives have been successfully implemented in areas like Umunneochi and other parts of the state, signaling a unified approach to restoring law and order across Abia.
Hon. Wagbara assured stakeholders that his administration will continue to prioritize the welfare of legitimate traders while creating an enabling environment for their businesses to thrive. “We are building a market where integrity and accountability are the hallmarks. By working together, we can transform Asa Nnentu into a model spare parts market in Nigeria.”
This visionary leadership underscores Ugwunagbo LGA’s commitment to fostering economic growth and community security while ensuring that law-abiding traders can conduct their business without fear or hindrance.
