JUST IN: British Council #StartupSouth announce support for Creative Talents in Port Harcourt

British Council and #StartupSouth today announced Rivers of Art – the second instalment of a series of events designed to bolster the Creative economy in Port Harcourt under the British Council’s Creative Economy Support Programme.

 “This initiative by the British Council is assisting performance artists and art exhibitors, many of whom were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant economic challenges. Many creative businesses, particularly those involving art forms that require live performances, are still recovering from the long-term harmful effects of the crisis,” stated Lucy Pearson, British Council Nigeria’s Country Director.

As an intervention, the Head of Arts West Africa and Creative Economy Lead SSA at British Council, Brenda Fashugba, stated that

“The Creative Economy Showcase Programme helps resolve several challenges for creative entrepreneurs, such as offsetting the massive cost of renting a premium venue space, providing communication support through publicity for the programme, offering exhibitors access to the British Council network of art enthusiasts and stakeholders as well as affording exhibitors access to our organisational knowledge of event management, programme management and planning.”

“Rivers of Art presents a wide array of creative performances and exhibitions from some of Port Harcourt’s fast rising stars for the second edition of the Creative Economy Showcase Programme at British Council, Port Harcourt.”

Rivers of Art features Right & Left Honourable with Dan D’Humourous, Verses & Flowers with Marcy WTF, Rivers Origin – a Pictorial Hiking experience of Rivers State with Hikerstrail, Visual & Digital Art Exhibition with Hyper Creative Network and Production Costumes in Pictures with Prof. Faith Aminikpo.

Also featuring are Family Abomination – a stage play by Chinedu Acho,, Presentation of 4Tress – a newly developed strategy game by Tox Systems and a music performance by Hope Swithin.

The event which promises to be fun will also feature other vendors, MCs Comperes and Comedians and will be held on December 17 & 18, 2022 at The British Council facility in Port Harcourt.
