Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has signed into law a bill banning the sale and consumption of alcohol in certain areas of the state, Punch reports.
The bill, known as the Prohibition Against the Production, Sale, and Consumption of Liquor in Certain Areas Law, 2018, was passed by the state assembly, and then passed it to the governor for assent.
In specific areas in Ilorin, the state capital, alcohol will not be allowed to be produced, sold, or consumed.
A fine of ₦100,000 or a prison term of up to 6 months has been stipulated for those found to disobey the law.
