Unilever, owner of Dove Brands, Acquires Shea Moisture’s Parent Company Sundial Brands

Do you remember how much backlash Dove received this month after the commercial that appeared to have a black woman turn into a white woman went viral? What about when #SheaMoisture included white women in a commercial for their products?

Well #Unilever is the parent company to Dove and they recently acquired Sundial Brands which is the parent company to #SheaMoisture. Sundial also markets the Nubian Heritage, Madam C.J. Walker and Nyakio brands and is slated to bring in $240 million in revenue this year. Both Sundial and Unilever have joined forces to create the New Voices Fund with an initial investment of $50 million. It purpose is to “empower minority women entrepreneurs.”

“The Sundial team has built differentiated and on-trend premium brands serving multicultural and millennial consumers that enhance our existing portfolio,” Kees Kruythoff, President, Unilever North America said in a press release. “Sundial is an important addition to our U.S. portfolio of purpose-driven companies, which includes Ben & Jerry’s and Seventh Generation.”
