The Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Ossai Osanebi, yesterday, wednesday 31st May, 2017 in Asaba, disbursed the second tranche of his foundation scholarship fund to indigent and intelligent students across Delta State.
He revealed that the scholarship award to indigent students was born out of long passion and desire to touch lives in line with the biblical teaching that givers never lack.
He further encouraged lucky beneficiaries to return back to campus with a renewed vigour to break new grounds and achieve excellence in their academic pursuit, adding that the ultimate value and renewal of the scholarship is predicated on excellence.
The Deputy Speaker, while commending governor Okowa for platforms in place to empower youths, he cautioned the students to shun all appearances of evil.
“As young people, we must shun all appearances of evil and social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, armed robbery, kidnapping and prostitution” He said adding: “available indices confirm that no youth ever involved in the above mentioned vices ever lived beyond 45yrs”.
He added that over one hundred students from different background in Delta State and beyond, were able to access the N10, 000,00.00 ( Ten million naira), 1st tranche payment last year in Asaba, and the beneficiaries were charged to pursue their academic program with sense of mission, noting that renewal of the scholarship was tied to certain CGPA (upper credit).
The Friday Osanebi Foundation, has over the years assisted students/youths and women majorly, to enhance human capital development and economic empowerment through his multifaceted empowerment schemes.
In line with the Deputy Speaker’s burning passion to touch lives positively, especially the poor, this scheme has specially distinguished him, due to it’s consistency and standard.
Osanebi further called on well meaning Deltans to join hands with government to develop the state.
” I want to use this medium to call on other well meaning Deltans to join hands with this foundation, in order to reach more Nigerians because the foundation alone can not touch all.” he said.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Dorothy Enuma, 200 level student of medicine and surgery from UNIBEN thanked the deputy speaker for his magnanimity and promised to make judicious use of the funds.
