[MUST READ] Entrepreneurship education the Covenant University way: Lessons for other Nigerian universities http://247ng.com/2019/05/16/must-read-entrepreneurship-education-the-covenant-university-way-lessons-for-other-nigerian-universities/ Thu, 16 May 2019 08:54:56 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2693 I have read this master piece for like 10 times, i am super inspired, felt like heading back to school…….. this is millennial, thought provoking lesson

From the entrance gate to lecture halls, to hostel rooms, to cafeteria, to the new Hebron Startup Lab – even the walk way, everything at Covenant University (CU) – the best university in West Africa – is deliberately designed to inspire, educate and propel students towards entrepreneurship. So, it’s no surprise that such high value startups as PiggyVest, ThriveAgric, KoraPay, PayStack, Wilson Lemonade and more than 100 others have come out of this high-energy campus, over just a few years. And when this university decided to be selfless and share their methodologies, nothing would stop me from grabbing the opportunity, not even the discomfort of spending significant part of my personal savings.

The Covenant University’s entrepreneurship education methodology is actually simple, yet highly effective. It’s designed around the idea that if you can put in place a supportive ecosystem for development of entrepreneurially-minded students, you’d reap a reward like having campus-originated startups like PayStack raising US$8million form foreign institutional investors like Visa, Tencent and Stripe, or PiggyVest which raises a Series A Round Funding of more than $1.1million from local Nigerian Investors.

The CU’s entrepreneurship ecosystem has two major components – talents development and incentives. But beside those, there is this corporate philosophy exemplified by the Chancellor himself, Dr David Oyedepo and all the senior management team that drives entrepreneurship: they dream, speak and do entrepreneurship. They have this philosophy that their students must be so molded that they don’t go back to their parents for anything after graduation. At the heart of CU’s curriculum are development of entrepreneurial mindset and great attitude in students. They don’t necessarily want everyone to be business owners but they do want to make sure that those who would rather work for others are job-ready and that they possess the attitudes that not only attract high-quality jobs, but also ones that keep them in the job when they do get one. This is one of the reasons they introduced CU Developer Circle, one of the most thriving in the country, where students acquire high premium digital skills that help them unlock Silicon Valley-like jobs while in school. This is also the driving philosophy behind their popular TTG (Towards a Total Graduate) program, where students are mandated to spend few extra weeks immediately after graduation learning critical attitudes, resume development, how to ace an interview, work ethics, being a productive worker, making a difference in the community and so on.

Back to the two components of CU’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, they have a practical approach to entrepreneurial talent development. First, most of their entrepreneurship faculties are practicing entrepreneurs. Most are into consulting, monetizing their knowledge and skills by building a business around such. In this way, they understand what it takes to start, manage and scale a business. They understand the mechanics of identifying problems, building solutions, raising funds, discovering a market, managing people and scaling a proven concept. At CU, teaching entrepreneurship is more like saying: ‘you can give what you have’. With this, entrepreneurship is not necessarily taught, it’s inspired by people who are travelling the same road. Second, students ‘Get Out of the Building’ a lot, to try their hands on real-life businesses and projects. Third, CU draws on it robust network of successful alumni for regular Speaker Event to inspire, and as mentors for their students. And lastly, they have high-integrity system for tracking feedbacks and reviewing their curriculum and delivery.

On the incentive side, several supporting infrastructures are on ground for both students and faculties to think and act entrepreneurially: free high-speed wifi, a startup lab, regular reward-driven business model competition, institutional facilitation of access to markets and finance as well as sponsorship to Accelerator programs for startups looking to scale.

By and large, i believe that most things in life are guided by laws. Like the law of gravity in science (whatever is thrown up will come down), there are specific laws, adherence to which leads to better outcomes, for entrepreneurship education. Outcomes at CU have shown that these laws include top leadership’s commitment, practical/experiential approach to talent development and provision of reasonable incentives in form of infrastructural supports for On-Campus enterprise creation.

Do other universities in Nigeria have the right entrepreneurship ecosystem at the moment? The answer is, not yet. Can they ever get there? Certainly, if not beyond. But they must start as soon as today. Someone within the university, not necessarily the VC or the Dean of College of Business, but anybody at all who is passionate about entrepreneurship needs to champion the course. This must be an individual who is ready to unlearn, learn and relearn the right way to teach entrepreneurship. He or she must be an individual who would say that‘my students’ future is too important to wait until our ecosystem is right’ and then make a firm commitment to use whatever is available, starting wherever possible to improve things. At the Dangote Business School where I currently coordinate all Postgraduate Entrepreneurship Programs as well as MSMEs activities, I see myself as this kind of Entrepreneurship Champion. Even before travelling down to learn about CU’s system, I have embarked on some initiatives targeted at making entrepreneurship education practical and experiential.

Our lectures have been scaled down from 2hours to only 1 hour and the other hour is for in-class interaction with practicing entrepreneurs or development of communication skills in our students. Once in a month, our students go out on field visits to enterprising organizations to network and learn firsthand what works and what doesn’t work. On day one, our students are assigned to mentors, a practicing entrepreneur who has achieved a measure of success in his/her venture. And lastly (for now), our students now begin their internship much earlier so that they have ample opportunity to engage and learn from industry people.

To conclude, I strongly believe that with active collaboration of stakeholders – top management of the university, faculties, alumni and private-sector players – public universities in Nigeria can produce students who will build Unicorns (startups with more than $1b valuation). More importantly, I believe that with the right supports and vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystems, Nigerian universities generally can produce students who will change the narratives of the country and make a dent in the universe. Yes, They Can!

Facebook spent $22.6m to keep Mark Zuckerberg safe during data breach probe http://247ng.com/2019/04/14/facebook-spent-22-6m-to-keep-mark-zuckerberg-safe-during-data-breach-probe/ Sun, 14 Apr 2019 05:42:59 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2680 Facebook more than doubled the money it spent on top executive Mark Zuckerberg’s security in 2018 to $22.6 million, a regulatory filing has showed.

A report by The Guardian UK reveals that Zuckerberg drew a base salary of $1 for the past three years, and his “other” compensation was listed at $22.6 million, most of which was for his personal security.

Nearly $20m went toward security for Zuckerberg and his family, up from about $9 million the year prior. Zuckerberg also received $2.6m for personal use of private jets, which the company said was part of his overall security program.

Facebook in the past few years has faced public outcry over its role in the spread of disinformation and political propaganda online, data breaches and privacy concerns.

It includes Russia’s alleged influence on the 2016 US presidential election and revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a political consultancy hired by Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, obtained personal data from millions of Facebook profiles without consent.

INEC counters Atiku, says there was no result on its servers http://247ng.com/2019/04/14/inec-counters-atiku-says-there-was-no-result-on-its-servers/ Sun, 14 Apr 2019 05:39:08 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2681 The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has denied having the result of the 2019 presidential election on its servers, contrary to claims by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The electoral body made the denial in its response to the petition of the PDP and Atiku to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, adding that the result of the election was never transmitted or collated electronically.

INEC’s lead counsel, Yunus Usman, also contended that the electoral body did not keep such server where such electronically transmitted results could have been obtained.

It would  be recalled that Atiku, relying on the supposed figures from servers, claimed he defeated President Muhammadu Buhari.

The INEC’s Director, Information and Communications Technology, Mr Chidi Nwafor, in his witness statement on oath attached to the reply, specifically denied the “server results” which the petitioners were laying claim to, insisting that all the results were manually collated.

Nwafor said: “That the petitioners are claiming that votes recorded at the various polling units were electronically transmitted, and stored in the 1st respondent’s (INEC’s) server.

“That the petitioners are also claiming that based on the server contents, they and not the 2nd and 3rd respondents won the presidential election.

“That these claims of the petitioners are false as I know as a fact that the 2nd respondent was duly elected by majority of the lawful votes cast at the presidential election and scored at least a quarter of the lawful votes cast at the election in 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, more than two-thirds of all the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

“That the petitioners did not win the majority of the lawful votes cast and did not satisfy the mandatory constitutional requirement to be declared winner having polled 11,262,978 and one quarter of all lawful votes cast in 29 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as against the 2nd respondent who scored 15,191,847 votes cast and one quarter of the lawful votes cast in 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“That the lawful and recognised computation of results is manually done using Electoral Form EC8 series and not the table pleaded by the petitioners given that the said table is not the result collated and declared by the 1st respondent.

“That I know as a fact that the details contained in the table in the paragraph 22 of the petition are inaccurate.

“That I know that mode of transmitting/collating election results is manual, using Forms EC8As, EC8Bs, EC8Cs and EC8Ds and not electronically done.

“That I know that the Manual Technologies 2019 and demonstration videos referred to in paragraph 27 are internal training materials.”

Reno Omokri: “Warned To Stop Criticizing Buhari Or Risked Being Called Ghanaian” http://247ng.com/2019/04/14/reno-omokri-warned-to-stop-criticizing-buhari-or-risked-being-called-ghanaian/ Sun, 14 Apr 2019 05:10:00 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2679 Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has said he has been warned to stop criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari led administration or face being called a Ghanaian.

His comment followed allegation by the APC led administration that Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Presidential candidate during the February 23rd poll is a Cameroonian.

He wrote on his verified social media account: I have been warned that if I don’t stop criticising the @MBuhari government, I will be accused of being a Ghanaian. I love my country and I don’t want to be denationalised! I need counsel. Should I comply? Or should I risk being attributed to Ghana?.

Omokri went further to reply a twitter user who wrote ”Go to Hell” on his comment section;

Omokri added: What is the difference between hell and Nigeria under @MBuhari? The heatwave we are suffering should give you a clue. Maybe in hell they insult each other by saying ‘go to Nigeria under Buhari’! Look at you for example. Do you look like you are in heaven?

Jumia: ‘Africa’s Amazon’ in landmark stock market listing 12 April 2019 http://247ng.com/2019/04/14/jumia-africas-amazon-in-landmark-stock-market-listing-12-april-2019/ Sun, 14 Apr 2019 04:44:55 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2673 Jumia delivers goods via scooter and offers a variety of payment options
Shares in Africa’s largest e-commerce firm have debuted on the New York stock market, which could see other tech start-ups on the continent follow suit.

Jumia is listing 17.6% of the company at $14.50 a share, giving the company “unicorn” status – a technology start-up worth $1bn-plus.

It is the first tech start-up from Africa to float on Wall Street.

The so-called “Africa’s Amazon” has 4 million customers on a continent where just 1% of retail sales are via online.

Jumia was founded in Lagos, Nigeria, by two French entrepreneurs in 2012 and now offers services to most of the African population, in countries such as South Africa, Tanzania, Egypt and Ivory Coast.

Its largest shareholder is MTN, Africa’s biggest telecoms company.

Media captionA Jumia Food customer orders food on the app
The company said on Friday that the flotation on the New York Stock Exchange would raise $196m (£150m) for shareholders and for future investment. Jumia’s financial advisers had been pitching the shares to investors at between $13-$16 each.

Jumia operates in 14 countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Algeria, Angola, and Senegal. The website sells everything from electronics to clothes, and there is a hotel and flight booking site, and a takeaway food delivery platform. In Kenya, Jumia has teamed up with French supermarket giant Carrefour to offer online deliveries.

The company’s sales jumped by almost 40% last year to $147.3m.

The BBC’s Africa Business Editor, Larry Madowo, said that Jumia was not yet profitable and had accumulated losses of nearly $1bn since it was founded.

Although there are technical and infrastructure hurdles to growing Africa’s online retail market, he said a big selling point was that Jumia accepted mobile money payments across a continent where few people have credit or debit cards.

However, he said Jumia faced tougher competition. “Its initial public offering coincides with the launch of a competing app from global logistics provider DHL allowing consumers in 11 African countries to buy directly from global retailers.

“The DHL Africa eShop brings together more than 200 American and British retailers and will deliver directly to homes, something Jumia has struggled with.”

Erik Hersman, chief executive of Nairobi-based internet and software firm BRCK, said Jumia’s listing sent an important signal to other African start-ups that a major stock market listing was possible.

“It’s an important event in the evolution of the African tech scene,” he told the BBC last month.

Details Of NJC Recommendation To Buhari on CJN Onnoghen issue http://247ng.com/2019/04/05/details-of-njc-recommendation-to-buhari-on-cjn-onnoghen-issue/ Fri, 05 Apr 2019 03:49:12 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2666 The National Judicial Commission (NJC) has recommended Justice Walter Onnoghen, the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), for compulsory retirement,

The recommendation came at the end of a meeting of the NJC leadership as earlier reported that the NJC met on Wednesday to review several charges preferred against the suspended CJN, Onnoghen.

After deliberating on the petition filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), members of the NJC unanimously agreed that “Onnoghen has lost the moral authority to continue as CJN with the litany of allegations bordering on misconduct.”

However, revealed that the NJC urged the President to allow Justice Onnoghen retain his seat as a former CJN in the Council of State.

The council also recommended that the CJN should be retired with full benefits.

The EFCC had accused Justice Onnoghen of being unable to account for “curious deposits” in his accounts.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the deposits had accumulated to $1,716, 000 as at today.

The NJC is the body vested with the legal power to handle disciplinary issues of judicial officers in the country.

The body sat under the interim leadership of Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal, who had to act since Onnoghen was under suspension.

On Acting CJN Tanko Muhammed, the council concluded that he did not commit any offence by making himself available to be sworn in as acting CJN without the recommendation of the NJC.

The recommendations have been passed to President Muhammadu Buhari for approval.

Soji Oye, the NJC’s Director of Information, also collaborated this when he spoke with newsmen at the end of the meeting.

However, for the CJN to be retired as recommended by the NJC, the President still has to seek the approval of the Senate.

This will require two-thirds majority of the upper legislative or red chamber.

This is in accordance with Section 292 (1) of the 1999 constitution (as amended), which says a “judicial officer shall not be removed from his office or appointment before his age of retirement except in the following circumstances – (a) in the case of – (i) Chief Justice of Nigeria… by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate.”

Recall that Onnoghen is also undergoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations of false asset declaration. If found guilty, the CJN risk being removed from office.

It will be recalled that President Buhari on January 25, 2019 suspended Onnoghen following an order made by the CCT.

It all started following a petition by the Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative (ARDI), a civil society group, which launched the legal move to remove Onnoghen.

The group had filed a petition against him at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) over alleged false declaration of assets.

It had listed a number of allegations against Onnoghen, which include alleged false declaration of assets.

The CCB is empowered by the constitution to investigate public officers, after which it would forward its findings to the appropriate body for trial if the allegations are confirmed.

Hon Tubotamuno Dick Finally opens up after his Abduction by the suspected military officers during the Governorship election in Rivers State http://247ng.com/2019/04/03/hon-tubotamuno-dick-finally-opens-up-after-his-abduction-by-the-suspected-military-officers-during-the-governorship-election-in-rivers-state/ Wed, 03 Apr 2019 21:43:09 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2662 Tamuno eh!

This is exactly the moment i was waiting for!

Ojukaye Flag-Amachree and Co, now, all those efforts to go and assassinate  your fellow Buguma man in the Manrove Forest and Rivers using the compromised Army Men led by Captain S. S. Balarabe what did it fetch you?

Whether you like it or not, you are a political neophyte! Otherwise, how else will one explain that you had command of a full unit of compromised army and FSARS Men and still failed woefully! That is to tell you that politics is strategy and planning and you don’t learn that from night school!

Like the Kalabari age long adage i quoted before, he who wants to separate a fight should first seperate a quarrel! Ojukaye and Co have done their bit for a record second time to eliminate me.

I too will now do my own legal bit to ensure Ojukaye is convicted and sentenced to death for the multiple murders he had earlier committed! Atleast, nobody can tell me now that i am joining outsiders to kill my fellow Kalabari (Buguma) man!

Let me see whether a convicted person sentenced to death and a fugitive of the law can be a political appointee!

His Excellency Governor Wike, you said it! Our victory will be sweet!

I am back!

Man no die! Man no rotten!

#APieceOfHistory Lawrence Anini: A brutal Arm robber http://247ng.com/2019/04/02/apieceofhistory-lawrence-anini-a-brutal-arm-robber/ Tue, 02 Apr 2019 00:59:50 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2657 Exactly 32 years ago today, the notorious bandit who terrorised Benin City and old Bendel State the 80s , Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini A.K.A. “Ovbigbo” or “the Law” and some members of his gang were executed by firing squad after being convicted by the defunct Bendel Armed Robbery and Firearms Tribunal presided over by Justice James Omo-Agege

Anini was born in a village about 20 miles from Benin City in present-day Edo State. He migrated to Benin at an early age, learned to drive and became a skilled taxi driver. Anini became known in Benin motor parks as a man who could control the varied competing interests among motor park touts and operators. He later dived into the criminal business in the city and soon became a driver and transporter for gangs, criminal godfathers and thieves. Later on, he decided to create his own gang which included, Monday Osunbor, Friday Ofege, Smallie ,Henry Ekponwan, Eweka and Alhaji Zed Zed or Zegezege who was never captured. They started out as car hijackers, bus robbers and bank thieves. Gradually, he extended his criminal acts to other towns and cities far north and east of Benin.

The complicity of the police is believed to have triggered Anini’s reign of terror in 1986. In early 1986, two members of his gang were tried and prosecuted against an earlier under-the-table ‘agreement’ with the police to destroy evidence against the gang members. The incident, and Anini’s view of police betrayal, is believed to have spurred retaliatory actions by Anini. In August, 1986, a fatal bank robbery linked to Anini was reported in which a police officer (Nathaniel Egharevba)and others were killed. That same month, two officers on duty were shot at a barricade while trying to stop Anini’s car. During a span of three months, he was known to have killed nine police officers.

In an operation in August 1986, the Anini team struck at First Bank, Sabongida-Ora, where they carted away N2,000. But although the amount stolen was seen as chicken feed, many persons were killed. On September 6, same year, the Anini gang snatched a Peugeot 504 car from Albert Otoe, the driver of the famous super cop Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christopher Omeben. In snatching the car, they killed the driver and went to hide his corpse somewhere. It was not until three months later that the skeleton of the driver was spotted 16 kilometers away from Benin City, along the Benin-Agbor highway. A day after this attack, Anini, operating in a Passat car believed to have been stolen, also effected the snatching of another Peugeot 504 car near the former FEDECO office, in Benin.

Two days later, the Anini men killed two policemen in Orhiowon Local Government of the state. Still in that month, three different robbery attacks, all pointing to Anini’s involvement, took place. They include the murder of Frank Unoarumi, a former employee of the Nigerian Observer newspapers; the killing of Mrs. Remi Sobanjo, a chartered accountant, and the stealing of the Mercedes Benz car in Benin, of the Ughelli monarch, the Ovie. Before September 1986 drew to a close, Anini struck at a gas station along Wire Road, Benin, where he stole a substantial part of the day’s sales. He shot the station’s attendant and gleefully started spraying his booty along the road for people to pick. The height of Anini’s exploits, however, took place on October 1, 1986, the Independence Day when the state’s Commissioner of Police, Casmir Akagbosu was ambushed by the gang in Benin riddled his convoy in a hail of bullets. The police boss survived the attacks with serious injuries. Earlier that day also, the Anini men had gunned down a police man within the city

“The Law”, as he was nicknamed, during an operation that went bad reportedly had to escape from the police by driving in reverse for a greater part of the distance from Agbor (Delta State) to Benin City (Edo State).
Also, on October 21 of same year, the Anini robbery gang terminated the life of a Benin-based medical doctor, A.O Emojeve when they gunned him down along Textile Mill Road, in Benin. Not done, Anini and gang went and robbed the Agbor branch of African Continental Bank and carted away about N46, 000. A day after the operation, Anini, The Law, turned to a ‘Father Christmas’ as he strew wads of naira notes on the ground for free pick by market men and women at a village near Benin. Anini’s image thus loomed larger than life, dwarfing those of Ishola Oyenusi, the king of robbers in the 1970s and Youpelle Dakuro, the army deserter who masterminded the most vicious daylight robbery,at Boulous Enterprises in Lagos in 1978, in which two policemen were killed. Anini thus spearheaded a four-month reign of terror between August and December 1986. Anini also reportedly wrote numerous letters to media houses using political tones of Robin Hood-like words, to describe his criminal acts.

Worried by the seeming elusiveness of Anini and his gang members, the military President, General Ibrahim Babangida then ordered a massive manhunt for the kingpin and his fellow robbers. The police thus went after them, combing every part of Bendel State where they were reportedly operating and living. The whole nation was gripped with fear of the robbers and their daredevil exploits.

However, Police manhunt failed to stop their activities; the more they were hunted, the more intensified their activities became. Some of the locals in the area even began to tell stories of their invincibility and for a while, it felt like they were never going to be caught. However, at the conclusion of a meeting of the Armed Forces Ruling Council , the Nation’s then highest ruling body in October 1986, General Babangida turned to the Inspector- General of Police, Etim Inyang, and asked, ‘My friend, where is Anini?’ Apperently embarrassed, IGP Iyang could to only tell his Commander in Chief that “We are still looking for him sir”. IGP Iyang was soon tender his notice of retirement from the force.

At about this time, Nigerian newspapers and journals were also publishing various reports and editorials on the ‘Anini Challenge’, the ‘Anini Saga’, the ‘Anini Factor’, ‘Lawrence Anini – the Man, the Myth’, ‘Anini, and ‘Lawrence Anini: A Robin Hood in Bendel’. The Guardian New papers asked, emphatically, in one of its reports: ‘Will they ever find Anini, “The Law”?’.

An African Proverb says “everyday for the thief ,one day for the owner, Anini’s reign of terror was eventually brought to an end with his arreste by a police officer , Superintendent of Police, Kayode Uanreroro on December 3, 1986, at No 26, Oyemwosa Street, opposite Iguodala Primary School, Benin City, in company with six women. Acting on a tip-off from the locals, the policeman went straight to the house where Anini was hiding and apprehended him with very little resistance. Uanreroro led a crack 10-man team to the house, knocked on the door of the room, and Anini himself, clad in underpants, opened the door. “Where is Anini,” the police officer quickly enquired. It was believed that his girl friend had a hand in his arrest. Many are of the opinion that the girlfriend collaborated with the police and took Anini’s charms away before the police arrived. Dazed as he was caught off guard and having no escape route, Anini all the same tried to be smart. “Oh, Anini is under the bed in the inner room”. As he said it, he made some moves to walk past Uanreroro and his team. In the process, he shoved and head-butted the police officer but it was an exercise in futility. Uanreroro promptly reached for his gun, stepped hard on Anini’s right toes and shot at his left ankle. Anini surged forward but the policemen took hold of him and put him in a sitting position. They then pumped more bullets into his shot leg and almost severed the ankle from his entire leg. Already, anguished by the excruciating pains, the policemen asked him, “Are you Anini?” And he replied, “My brother, I won’t deceive you; I won’t tell you lie, I’m Anini.”

He was from there taken to the police command headquarters where the state’s Police Commissioner, Parry Osayande, was waiting. While in the police net, Anini who had poor command of English and could only communicate in pidgin, made a whole lot of revelations. He disclosed, for instance that Osunbor, who had been arrested earlier, was his deputy, saying that Osunbor actually shot and wounded the former police boss of the state, Akagbosu

Anini was shot in the leg, transferred to a military hospital, and had one of his legs amputated. That was after Monday Osunbor was also captured. When Anini’s hideout was searched, police recovered assorted charms, including the one he usually wore around his waist during “operations”. It was instructive that after Anini was captured and dispossessed of his charms, the man who terrorised a whole state and who was supposed to be fearless suddenly became so lilly livered and started singing like a sparrow, making confessions. This was against public expectation of a daredevil hoodlum who would remain defiant to the very end.

Shortly after the arrest of Anini and co, the dare-devil robbers began to squeal, revealing the roles played by key police officers and men, in the aiding and abetting of criminals in Bendel State and the entire
country. Due to the amputation of his leg, Anini was confined to a wheelchair throughout his trial.
Anini particularly revealed that Chief Supretendent of Police Iyamu, who was the most senior police officer shielding the robbers, would reveal police secrets to them and then, give them logistic supports such as arms, to carry out robbery operations.

He further revealed that Iyamu, after each operation, would join them in sharing the loot. It was further exposed how Iyamu planned to kill Christopher Omeben, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Intelligence and Investigation. But Iyamu was later to be disappointed as the assailants dispatched to eliminate Omeben were only able to kill his driver, Otue, a sergeant. Iyamu, whom the robbers fondly referred to as ‘Baba’, reportedly had choice buildings in Benin City; being how he invested the loots he obtained from men of the underworld. Iyamu, on his part, denied ever knowing and collaborating with Anini. But Anini stood his ground .Of the 10 police officers Anini implicated, five were convicted. The robbery suspects, including Iyamu, were sentenced to death.

But in passing his judgement, Justice Omo-Agege remarked, “Anini will forever be remembered in the history of crime in this country, but it would be of unblessed memory. Few people if ever, would give the name to their children.” The execution of Anini and the remaining members of his gang took place on the last Saturday of March ,1987. Osunbor and CSP Iyamu had been executed few weeks earlier.

Does Your Business Need Website? http://247ng.com/2019/04/01/does-your-business-need-website-2/ Mon, 01 Apr 2019 11:33:48 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2644 Like many business owners, you may believe your business cannot benefit from having a website or that a website is not within your budget.

The first reason why your company needs a website, even if your business has five employees or less, is because that’s where so many of your potential customers are for so much of the time.

The most common reason we hear from small businesses for not having a website is: “we don’t need one.”

If you don’t have a website, imagine how many prospective customers have searched online for your contact info, hours, location, products, etc. If prospective customers can’t find this information about your business, then your business doesn’t exist and they’ll go elsewhere. Wouldn’t you?

Some older business owners still believe a Yellow Pages listing is enough or Pages on social media will be a great start.
While Yellow pages are still used by older audiences, there are many younger people who’ve never even used the Yellow Pages. Times are a ‘changin.

Please also understand this, the website can provide more info than any page on social media do.
The best reason to have a website is that there’s no reason not to because these days getting a website is easier and cheaper than ever.

BREAKING NEWS: Lil Wayne Pays Off $14 Million Tax Bill http://247ng.com/2019/04/01/breaking-news-lil-wayne-pays-off-14-million-tax-bill/ Mon, 01 Apr 2019 11:21:52 +0000 http://247ng.com/?p=2641

Could you imagine having to spend over a million dollars at once? Well according to @blast that’s what happened to the 36-year-old Nola rapper #LilWayne, he recently spent $14 million to settle his tax debt, yes $14 million.

There were documents obtained by The Blast explaining why he owed the $14 million, and it was because the “IRS filed releases of two separate federal tax linens against Wayne.” In 2017, Lil Wayne was accused by the liens that he failed to pay $7,341,399.07 in 2011 and in 2012 he failed to pay $6,853,545.77. The grand total was $14,194,944.84. Now a lot of people may question how is this even possible for someone that is a millionaire, well Wayne was able to back up that question. He claims it’s because he did not receive his money from Cash Money Records that they owed him, while he was under the label.

According to @blast Lil Wayne may have gotten lucky with this one because he may have used the money he received from #Birdman in 2018, when the two settled their long legal battle over Wayne’s record deal.

Wayne claimed Cash Money Records owed him tens of millions of dollars, this included an $8 million advance for “The Carter V” album. In order to have his record  deal voided, he sued the record label. As a result, The Blast, reported that Wayne received an eight-figure payout from the Universal Music Group. He then cut ties with Birdman’s  Cash Money Records.

As a result, Wayne had permission to release his album through Universal.
