The Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila-led 9th House of Representatives will come to a conclusion on June 10 and the 10th House of Representatives will be inaugurated on June 11, 2023.

Already, high-wire intrigues are trailing jostling for the Speaker of the House and other key positions.

A good politician is the one who at all times attends to the problems and seek the progress of his immediate and larger constituency.

In this regard therefore, Ahmed Idris Wase deserves to be the next Speaker. It is true that the next Nigerian president will need a vibrant, but cooperative National Assembly, to avoid delayed passage of annual budgets and Progressive legislations as well as carry out oversight functions on government projects.

To begin with, the Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase is from the North Central zone which has been marginalised for a long time, considering their contributions to the national development.

But that aside, Wase’s visionary style of leadership continues to inspire starting from his Constituency, where he led for sixteen years, and changed the landscape, turning it into a national and global reference for social, economic and infrastructural development.

Wase’s love for the youths have been demonstrated in all the offices he had occupied. Issues concerning the youths touches him more and elicit passionate, incisive and brilliant response from him.

This passion about the youths is however not new. Since his days in the civil service up to his years in the green chamber, and as Deputy Speaker, he has always surrounded himself with brilliant and committed young persons.

Nigerians are yearning for good governance, Wase’s skills are definitely what is needed now.

With Ahmed Idris Wase, we have no fear that consolidation of the mission and vision of making Nigeria great to compete favourably with other countries of the world will be achieved.

At this point in our history, Nigeria has gone through so much in the past. So we need men who can hit the ground running. Not just politicians but people with extensive National and global networks and Wase has that.

Other qualities of Wase as a public officer that stands him out among other contestants is his detribalised nature. He pays no attention to where anyone who crosses his path comes from. It is on record that, as a Deputy Speaker, some of his Advisers and staff are non-indigenes of his state.

His stay in the House of Representatives, as a Deputy Speaker, Wase demonstrated a high level of patriotism in his handling of legislative issues with the opposition. Those who expected him to play blind politics were disappointed with his style of leadership. He was able to balance his role as the leader of the ruling party and the need to support everything that would be of benefit to Nigerians brought to the floor of the Green Chamber by the ruling party and the opposition.

Ahmed Idris Wase is good and deserves to be the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives
